That’ll teach me for daring to step away from the computer – yesterday evening Aston Villa announced the expected capture of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

The 27-year-old player comes in from German side FC Ingolstadt for an undisclosed fee and the Norwegian international stopper has signed a three-year deal at Villa Park.

Speaking to the Official Site as his signature was announced, he said himself of the move.

“I’m looking forward to playing for this big club and can’t wait to get started. Everything has moved very quickly and I’m really happy to be here and call myself a Villa player. I also can’t wait to play in front of the fans – I’ve heard they’re quite fantastic. I’m looking forward to experiencing their support for myself. This club belongs in the Premier League and I’m keen to play a part in getting us back there.”

The 29 times capped international began his career at Hodd and spent time with Molde before making the move to Germany in 2015. In his time with them he added a further 52 starting appearances to his tally with one substitute appearance, and 34 of those came last season.

I know nothing about the man but plenty seem happy with the deal – it’s also fair to say some are wondering how many goalkeepers we actually need at the club as we now technically have four senior stoppers and many were hoping to see Matija Sarkic make the step up this year.

Of concern to many was the continued obsession with bloody Love Island – are they a new sponsor? Some of us have IQ’s above that level. It’s like being asked to keep up with the Kardashians – I’m not convinced some of us can go that slow.
