With Aston Villa successfully winning promotion back to the Premier League via the Championship Play-Off route in the campaign of 2019/20, transfer speculation has certainly increased now we know we’re back in the top flight and links with Coventry City starlet Tom Bayliss are certainly new to me.

The Sun on Sunday via the Coventry Telegraph loosely linked us with having an interest in the 20-year-old midfielder and he seems to have impressed plenty following his breakthrough year in 2017/18 as he now boasts 59 starts to his name, with a further four from the substitutes bench. He’s also chipped in with nine goals from midfield and was key to their promotion from League Two and then consolidation in League One.

Whilst this is certainly the sort of signing I can see us looking to make under our new owners and Dean Smith given given Christian Purslow’s words about John McGinn, I do doubt this one and not because of the £3million fee for the England Under 19 international.

It’s a typical Sun rumour and it’s quicker to count the clubs not linked with him, as they’ve also claimed interest from West Ham, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Derby and Leeds from what I can see in the last few weeks.

A name to remember though, maybe?
