Capital FM are reporting that Villa have lodged a 13 million pound bid for Steven Fletcher. Considering the source I would expect this is quite probably true, although whether the bid gets accepted we’ll have to wait and see. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that he isn’t good enough, he’s too expensive etc etc, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am a big fan of Steven Fletcher. He scores a lot of goals with his head, can hold the ball up and is able to link the play. If Lambert thinks he’s good enough and worth the money then we should all get behind him

Steven Kenneth Fletcher (born 26 March 1987) is an English-born Scottish footballer, who plays as a striker for Football League Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fletcher began his club career with Hibernian, playing in 156 Scottish Premier League games and scoring 43 goals. English club Burnley paid a club record transfer fee of £3 million to sign Fletcher in June 2009. He was their top goalscorer in the 2009-10 season with eight league goals, but the club were relegated from the Premier League. Fletcher was transferred soon afterwards to Wolves, who also paid a club record fee, of £6.5 million, for his services.

Fletcher played for the Scotland under-19 team that finished runners up to Spain in the 2006 European Championship. He has since represented Scotland eight times at full international level, scoring one goal. Fletcher has not played for Scotland since 2010, however, due to a dispute with the Scotland manager Craig Levein.

22 goals in 61 for Wolves.

  • Certainly think we are a striker light in the squad, so …. ? A lot of money that mind you! On the flipside, not my money is it?!

  • I have been saying or ages we lack a big man striker to help us hold onto the ball, Heskey could never score so was not the answer Carew was thelast big guy we had that could score, Fletcheri rate he was Wolves main threat and kept them up the season before last in the Premier League, £13million is a lot of money though but if Lambert feels he is the man as you say Fear i am not going to go against his expertise in knowing who we need for sure, he does score goals in a struggling Wolves team which is always a good sign, lets see if this happans as Sunderland want him aswell, Dazz Bent and Fletcher could be interesting UTV!

  • I thin he’s a decent player but you aren’t seriously telling me he’s worth £13 million? More than we paid for Milner and Downing? If we are willing to spend that kinda money I’m sure we can get a better striker than Fletcher. According to bbc MON has bid £12 mil and I hope he wins this particular battle.

  • Decent player but for that price, stay clear, debatable if he is worth half of that to be honest.

  • Get real 13 mil for Fletcher no way better ways to spend 13m. Its just B/S apparently the news was broken by Arthur Mullardo !!!! Where is Hilda Baker

  • i think he’s the exact player we need. 13£m is alot but wolves paid £7m for him themselves and he is definitely a better player now than he was then

  • decent player who can score a few goals but never worth 13mil he is 6mil max hopefuly only MON is mad enough to pay that money, and just in case you don’t know for his 12 goals in 32 appearances for wolves last year they had more successful crosses than any other team in the prem so he had more than enough chances to score more so sorry I don’t want him at villa, much better out there for 13mil

  • not worth it! he is better than Bent, mind you he is to good for your lot, it would be a backwards step in his career.
    P.Avfc – moron!

  • johnwolf P.Avfc aint a moron he’s a passionate Villan so less of the silly name calling ay mate, would raher read what you really think of Fletcher as a few lads who i know are Wolves fans and they say they would have ben gutted if Fletcher left Wolves and they said this about a month ago

  • we can do better than Championship fodder but 8-10 mil max i suppose it could be useful. 16 mil for him and Jarvis and they got a deal!

  • Do like him. £1m3 is alot of money if he doesn’t hit the target. Agree that we can possibly find similar or better for money in Europe…is Yeboah or Weah still playing? Seriously though, we could do worse than Demba Ba or Odemwingie. Both unsettled and know where the net is….both may have attitude issues though, however if both are played regular then both seem to be well happy….both achievable for £13m?

  • Fletcher knows where the goal is – and did so even in our dismal season… Prices are indeed silly these days, so 13 mil is now good value for someone who will score regularly. I dont want to see any of good players go, but it looks like oNeills got this one wrapped up. Good luck for next season and ***** on the albion

  • I like Fletcher but I can’t believe that for £13m we couldn’t find a better player out there.

You only get the money once, once it’s spent, it’s gone.
