Martin O’Neill doesn’t seem totally happy with the performance from the Villa following the 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

He said that the team was capable of better adding ‘It really was a very frustrating afternoon and we just didn’t create enough during the course of the game. At half-time we were doing OK. Away from home I suppose the onus was on Manchester City. I felt we were having our fair share of it without creating much. We did have a few opportunities in the first-half and looked as if we might cause them a few problems.’

‘They scored a goal just after half-time and that was the signal for us to up the tempo, which I think we attempted to do, but we just didn’t create enough. We tried to go for it, but it didn’t work out for us and we’re capable of much better. We thought before the game that we were capable of winning here, never mind drawing, but we’ve come away with nothing. That’s very disappointing.’

He also says they now have to show what they are made of and bounce back, ‘People talk about learning curves and they may have a point, but we should do better – it’s as simple as that.’

Good honest talk from the boss!

Meanwhile Olof Mellberg says they have to bounce back. Villa a home game against Everton coming up next Sunday, the Sweden international said:

‘The good sides all come back from these setbacks. The very good sides take it in their stride and come back. We have to try and acquire that.’

Adding, ‘It’s a close league this season and a lot of teams are capable of doing well. A lot of teams have spent a lot of money and want to be pushing for Europe. We’re one of those teams and so we have to bounce back from defeats. We did that after the opening day of the season against Liverpool and hopefully we can do the same next week
