Martin O’Neill has been speaking about the transfer window again. I’m really not sure that it is a good idea. I know he will be asked and asked by the press, but after last summer and the lack of activity, I’m sure it would be better to say no comment and then just parade any new signings in front of the Villa faithful once the deal is done?

According to the official site he has the green light to spend (not sure there was ever a red light was there?) and the Villa boss said:

‘We have a good platform and we want to try and do something in the market. I would like to build the squad up a bit. Last January it was imperative that I did something. I still think it is really important this time, and we have been fortunate with injuries. If we had encountered the same problems as West Ham this season with injuries then we would be in almighty trouble. We have got opportunities next month to add to our numbers. I accept you sometimes have to pay over the odds in January – but it is something we need to address.’

Lets hope this January brings us the cheer we were expecting last summer, maybe the targets he needs are now clearer and hopefully the main men he wants available.
