Villa Celebrating Like It’s 1975 As We Make It Eight Wins On The Spin – Match Stats

Not so fresh from seven wins on the spin, a changed Aston Villa side welcomed fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City to Villa Park for today’s Championship action.

We already knew we’d be minus Tyrone Mings in the heart of defence following his double yellow carding in the last match and the one game suspension that followed, but Jack Grealish went down with illness and was a late omission from the tie.

After a goalless first half that we did edge, it came together more in the second half and Tammy Abraham made up for his last miss, by burying his chance from the penalty spot in the 55th minute. Eleven minutes later Conor Hourihane had doubled our advantage and although the visitors did get a goal back with just over 15 minutes remaining in the tie, we were comfortable and if anything, the margin of victory should’ve been greater.

City scored with their only registered effort on target.

Now the big question, can we make it nine on the spin?
