According to reports just emerging Aston Villa and Chelsea have agreed a £5.5 million fee for Steve Sidwell.

There is, at present, no confirmation on either official site so as ever, I’d take these things with pinch of salt but then again, a move for the former Reading midfielder has been muted for a long time and the 25-year-old definitely has to move on from Stamford Bridge to get his career back on track.

Some reports are suggesting this will signal the departure of Gareth Barry, I disagree, without a fee suitable being agreed – and Villa are in the driving seat on that side of things – he won’t be going anywhere. We don’t have to sell in order to buy.

So what do you think. Is Steve Sidwell, if he agrees personal terms and does make the move, a good signing? Our latest poll asks the very thing, what a happy coincidence.
