Villa Cut Play-Off Gap To Two Points With Comfortable Victory Over O’Neill – Match Stats

Aston Villa made the short trip to the City Ground earlier this evening as we faced off against a familiar foe – Martin O’Neill and his new Nottingham Forest side.

There’s no reason to go over history but for a whole variety of reasons, making it three wins on the spin for the Villa would be extra sweet tonight.

It was certainly a fast start and the hosts had the lead three minutes in, but two moments of class from John McGinn saw us level in the 7th minute and then ahead by minute 15. The game did lull a bit then, but chances went either way and Kortney Hause tied the match up just after the hour mark as he hit his first for the club following his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers and scored our third of the evening.

Forest didn’t really threaten and we could’ve extended our lead with good chances falling to Jonathan Kodjia and McGinn, but sadly he hit the woodwork.

On we roll, things are looking positive again. We leapfrog O’Neill’s side in the table and are now two points behind Derby County in sixth spot.
