Following Aston Villa’s takeover by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens over the summer, our new owners will certainly be pleased with the impact of head coach Dean Smith as we prepare for this weekend’s Championship Play-Off Semi-Final tie against local rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The first of the doubleheaders takes place at Villa Park before we look to book our place at Wembley with the final Hawthorns showing, and although we’ve seen plenty of Sawiris given he’s based in the UK, we’ve only seen Edens on a couple of occasions – the most recent being Millwall.

Whether or not he returns on Saturday I guess we’ll find out, but with other sporting interests, the 57-year-old made a prominent appearance when the Milwaukee Bucks progressed to the NBA Eastern Conference final on Thursday as they took victory over Boston Celtics.

Snapped courtside for the final game of their five match series, Villa fans were absolutely delighted with the image, even if it left some Bucks fans confused.

It’s turning into a good sporting year for our co-owner and let’s hope he has a decision to make in May. Should we make the Wembley Final on May 27 he may well need to choose between the Villa and the Bucks as they are due to host either the Toronto Reptors of the Philadelphia 76ers in the early hours of May 28 in the final of their seven game series.
