Villa Complete Remarkable Turnaround To Secure Back To Back Victories – Match Stats

|

With the October interruption break in full flow, we now have the natural lull in the Premier League fixture list to contend with but earlier tonight, Aston Villa fans did have something to look forward to as our Under 21 group were back in action in the EFL Trophy – facing off against locals Burton Albion at The Pirelli Stadium.

Having made (small) history at the end of August as we secured our first ever win in the competition over Wycombe, hopes were high for more success in this one.

It was a tough start to the game for us with Burton controlling and dictating and they had themselves a 2-0 advantage as we hit the 25 minute mark. Despite largely being bullied out there, Cameron Archer made it 2-1 in the 35th minute and the game started to turn.

To quote Villan57 from our Match Thread.

“Bloody hell they learn quick, bullied out of it, now they’ve realised they can kick and hack back. Villa are playing football Burton, are trying to bully the kids.”

Six minutes after the restart Tristan Abldeen-Goodridge had us back on level terms and just after the hour mark we had a 3-2 advantage with Archer picking himself up a brace. He then made it a hattrick in the 71st minute.

Who was looking forward to 5-2 in the 81st?

Sadly that never materialised, but the full time score reads 4-2 and two wins on the spin. Fantastic turnaround for the boys.

  • Paul Myles says:

need some attention to the defending, closer contact, required

    • Mike Field says:

Massive learning curve but thought we improved as the game went on – couple of dicey moments but to be expected given relative experience.
