With confirmation of Aston Villa fullback Matty Cash’s switch of international allegiance from England to Poland well known by fans, with the next pointless interruption break now on the cards again, seeing him named in their squad is probably the least surprising news of the week.

The 24-year-old former Nottingham Forest Academy graduate has quickly worked his way into a bit of a fan favourite, although it’s clear there’s still plenty he can work and improve upon, but after the utter shambles that was the West Ham United clash, he was one of very few players who came out of the defeat with some credit, and Polish fans looking in will likely have been quite impressed.
He finds himself in head coach Paulo Sousa’s squad for the upcoming November World Cup qualifiers against Andorra (Friday, November 12) and Hungary (Monday, November 15) and Poland are well on track to secure a Play-Off spot for the Qatar shambles, and could, in fact, still finish above England.
Congrats Matty, but again, not exactly a surprise.
I’m sure any curious Poles watching yesterday would have liked what they saw. Our best player so far this season.

Only player who actually wanted to play yesterday bar Nakamba

Smart move. Class player, deserves national football but would never get called up for England due to the bs politics involved

Thankfully, one Southgate can’t ruin. All the best to our floppy haired prince, just stay safe Matty. 💜💙 #AVFC

One of the only villa players to come away with any credit at full time yesterday, one of his best games for us, shame the other ten didn't match Matty's efforts. Well deserved and definitely Poland's gain

I thought he was excellent yesterday. Played with great energy and no little skill. Just a pity most of the rest of team didn’t show the same attitude.
