Villa Continue To Do The Same Things Whilst Expecting A Different Result- Match Stats

Saturday’s Premier League clash saw us make the trip up to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp’s struggling Liverpool side, but with our form, few Aston Villa fans were confident ahead of this one.

It was a poor game in reality, and the hosts predictably dominated possession and created the better chances across the 90, but we were never really out of it and we had some good chances ourselves.

The game did have plenty of talking points – particularly as it looked like we might complete a smash and grab when Ollie Watkins opened the scoring 43 minutes in. VAR was even nice to us today as it rightly scrubbed off a Liverpool goal for a clear offside when we got the micrometers out, but just ahead of the hour mark the inevitable equaliser came and although we were looking like we might end the second half stronger, the sucker punch came one minute into injury time and 2-1 was how it finished.

All in, it goes down as a disappointing defeat where it feels like a point would’ve been fairer, but post game chat amongst the fans will again be focused on why we persist with the theory of starting matches with only nine men and then when we do make changes, why do we continue to make the same changes despite them never helping us to turn a game around.

Meh.
