Brighton are in the lead to sign one of our reported summer transfer targets, Stephane Bahoken, according to the Express.

The Seagulls are believed to have sounded out the Cameroonian international about moving on a free transfer to the Amex at the end of the season.

The striker’s contract expires in the summer, and Villa, along with Newcastle, Everton, Stoke City and Udinese have all been tracking the player’s progress.

Express journalist Neil Fissler reports that we remain interested in signing the 25-year-old, but a move to Villa Park would depend on us gaining promotion back to the Premier League.

Representatives of the forward have reportedly told Brighton that Bahoken’s favoured destination among English teams is currently the South Coast club.

So far this season in Ligue One, he has scored six goals in 21 league outings, with his team Strasbourg currently 16th, five points above the relegation places.

The player also made his debut for the Cameroon national side last month in the 3-1 friendly win over Kuwait. It’s a long way from his loan spell he had at Scottish club St Mirren just a few years ago.
