Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies believes that his first England Cap will come some day, but only after he ups his game in yet another damningly honest admission from the former West Brom man.

In a level of honesty, not seen since David O`Leary, Davies told avfc.co.uk: ‘I’ve had no contact from Fabio Capello and his team and I have no right to.’

Curtis hasn`t quite got himself back to the level he was playing at last season prior to his ruptured Achilles tendon, however the sheer speed in which he recovered is a testament to the players determination, having called himself a “pub team player” after his Claret & Blue debut in the League Cup defeat against Leicester.

On his England chances, and competitors for those centre-back spots he added:

‘I believe that I will get that England cap. I’ve got to feel confident in myself. That’s always been my goal and I’ve always believed that it will happen – whether it will be soon or in the distant future.

‘Centre-half has got to be the strongest position in the England team. If you look at the players that are there – Rio (Ferdinand), John Terry and then obviously behind them there’s Woodgate, Upson, Brown, Richards, Wheater, Taylor, Anton Ferdinand. You could go on forever. This country is just blessed with centre-halves.’

Wes Brown? Come on Curtis give yourself at least a wee break!

‘You need to be at the top of your game to play for England anyway but you need to be at the very top to play centre-half.’

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Curtis Davies will play for England one day. Another one of Martin O`Neill`s signings that despite the financial cost, he has got spot on and will only continue to develop into more of a superb player than he already is!
