With speculation about Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan growing in recent days as he continues to be linked with a loan out to Sheffield United ahead of the closure of the January transfer window, earlier this afternoon it was being claimed the deal was on the verge of being done and would go through either later this evening or earlier Thursday morning.

The 26-year-old has had a pretty woeful time at Villa Park following his reported £9million arrival from Brentford (potentially rising to £12million) back in the January 2017 window, and he’s only contributed ten goals in 32 starts and 29 substitute showings.

Injuries have played a part in that, but with the fine form of on loan Tammy Abraham and then Jonathan Kodjia ahead of him in the pecking order, plenty feel his time is unfortunately up with us, even if the caveat is we have never actually played to his strengths.

I’m still not convinced a promotion rival is the best destination for him, but I understand the line of thought that rather than making it harder for us to chase down United, if he finds his form, he’ll help them thin the pack by taking points off others.

Definitely feels this one could go through though as Chris Wilder has been reportedly tracking him since last summer.

Sky Sports are reporting the imminent nature of this one.
