On Wednesday afternoon, the Professional Footballers Association revealed their Championship Team of the Year for the campaign of 2018/19.
With Aston Villa flying high in recent months and setting a new club record of ten wins on the spin, duo Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham have been pivotal in the turn of form under head coach Dean Smith as we re-established ourselves back in the race for promotion via the Play-Off spots.
On loan Abraham has been a revelation up front for us, scoring 25 goals and providing three assists across his 37 games and the 21-year-old had already beaten Peter Withe’s single season record, and brought himself level with Andy Gray’s tally of 25 from the 1976/77 campaign.
Grealish needs no introduction as since returning from injury he’s now wearing the skippers’ armband with pride and 31 appearances of his own, he’s contributed six goals and six assists, but his importance stretches far beyond those statistics.
Had we had him for longer, fellow loanee Tyrone Mings would’ve been a good shout to make that a trio in my humble, but how John McGinn missed out is absolutely beyond me.
