Villa Face Competition From Leeds For Reported Long Term Target

|

The second Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith walked through the doors at Bodymoor Heath, the club have seen themselves linked with a number of players from Brentford, and a firm favourite on the rumour mill has always been versatile defender Yoann Barbet.

The 26-year-old Frenchman can operate at both centre-back and left back and he is set to become a free agent next month when his deal at Griffin Park comes to a natural end, but if the rumour mill is to be believed we will face significant competition for his signature.

With 32 Championship appearances to his name in the season of 2018/19, he was a regular under Smith previously so he knows exactly what he’s capable of, so the speculation does make sense as Barbet also won’t be a massive earner as we look to operate more sensibly in the future.

With natural doubts over the futures of both Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings, I can certainly imagine Barbet features somewhere on the shortlist as an alternative option moving forward, but we’ll have to see if anything comes of it.
