Villa Fail In Reported £8million Bid But It Raises Questions About The Futures Of Two At The Club

|

Aston Villa fans will have their own thoughts on this piece of speculation as we’ve been linked with a move for Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

Wales Online originally reported the speculation based on what I can tell, and they claimed that Cardiff had already knocked back an £8million offer as they are holding out for £10million at least, despite their relegation in 2018/19 back to the Championship.

The only other bit of note in the speculation is that Fulham are also sniffing around but equally failed in a nearer to £10million bid of their own, but having been released by Fulham back in 2014, he has no desire to return to Craven Cottage and in any event, he would prefer Premier League football.

The 29-year-old Phillippines international had a good year really for Cardiff last season despite suffering the drop and he made 38 appearances in the top flight, registering the second most saves across the season with 141 according to PremierLeague.com and he even managed ten clean sheets.

He’s also worked with Dean Smith and Neil Cutler previously during a spell at Walsall where they crossed, and I’m guessing that’s the main driver here.

I wouldn’t necessarily think it adds a question mark to Jed Steer’s name, but it certainly does the futures of Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic for me.

Smith Is The Right Choice For Aston Villa & Not Because He’s A Fan
