A disappointing defeat to Millwall at the weekend as Aston Villa closed out the regular season of 2017/18 didn’t quite lead to the fall-out many may have expected.

A 30th-minute penalty by Shaun Williams was enough to decide the game despite Villa having the better of the stats – the stats don’t tell the story of the game though as our performance was largely poor with the changes made to rest people.
Ahead of the game, the main call from fans had been the result is irrelevant, protect the players as everything now hinges on the upcoming Play-Off double-header with Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough side – but even when fans call for that a defeat often sees a change of heart.

That certainly wasn’t the case as reactions following the game remained largely in support of the decisions taken, with only some expressing concern about inconsistency going into the season extension and whether or not it would’ve better-served confidence to move forward with a victory.
As I tweeted earlier I knew we wouldn't get anything at Millwall,it's just one of those grounds they play poorly at

I get it was a weak team and the result doesn't matter but would've been nice to see a solid performance and a win before play offs

Of far more concern to many were details about tickets for the upcoming double-header as that information quickly became more important than the match itself, even if Middlesbrough had only just been confirmed as our official opponents as many were still expecting Derby County.
So summarised in one easy to read place with appropriate links – for anybody who may have missed it once more.
