Villa Fans ‘Wary’ Of Revolution

Martin O’Neill has admitted that despite his arrival and the arrival of a new owner in Randy Lerner, some fans are still ‘reserving judgement’ on the ‘revolution’ at Villa Park.

‘The fans are wary. I think they are folding their arms and saying ‘Let’s wait and see’. They’ve seen these false dawns before and to get to that next stage, we have to go through this current one. It’s the old adage of two steps back to go one forward.’

‘We have still to really win the people over. For instance, we had taken four points from two away games with Everton and Wigan and the crowd on Saturday was 33,000. It would be great to see a day when people are desperate to get into Villa Park and see us playing. I don’t mean for the Manchester United and the Liverpool games, which are normally guaranteed sell-outs, but fixtures like the one with Middlesbrough so we still have got plenty of work to do.’

Amen to that. I thought we were assured crowds of 36 000 and over this season, evidently not with only the Spurs game selling out. Have to say Manchester City have had similar ups and downs to us but their fans still turn up in good numbers, maybe with a purchase or two the Villans will return in numbers?

Tickets for the Man City game tomorrow night (7.45pm kick off) are on general sale, ticket sales: 0871 423 8101
