“Villa Fans Would Love Him” – Former Player Believes 23 y/o Would Be A Hit At Villa Park

Aston Villa have long been linked with Rangers hot-head, Alfredo Morelos, and with the current lull in the Premier League fixture list, owing to the October international break, the story has returned and it seems to have been sparked by former player Darren Bent.

The 23-year-old striker is clearly a talent and his goalscoring record for HJK Helsinki spoke for itself prior to his arrival at Ibrox (27 goals in 29 appearances). He’s certainly been a success north of the border, with 62 goals in 110 games across all competitions, including the Europa League.

Villa Weren’t Interested In 27 y/o Rangers Man Before, We Won’t Be Now

There is one big problem with the Colombian though, he’s about as likely to end up in the referee’s notepad as he is on the scoresheet as he’s certainly not against petulantly lashing out when things don’t go his way.

His supporters will point to the fact that he’s shown improvement as he’s yet to be sent off this season, but he just really doesn’t seem the kind of ‘team player’ that head coach Dean Smith and Suso would target given his mentality.

Former striker Bent though thinks he’d be nailed on as a fan favourite if we ever did bring him to Villa Park and speaking to Football Insider this week, he explained.

“The Villa fans would love him. For whatever reason, fans, with this type of player, they never really look at the fact he might get sent off, that he’s a bit of a troublemaker. They just love him. They absolutely love him. Villa fans will fall in love with him. He works hard, he tries really, really hard. He is someone that I would call a test. There is always something going on around him. He knows where the goal is and he always scores goals. I’d love to see him in the Premier League and I think he’d be a great fit.”

I’m not so sure Bent is right here, when Ashley Young was at his theatrical best he certainly came in for plenty of stick as a liability, despite his obvious talent and importance to our first team group, and I think Morelos would simply rile fans up the wrong way and quickly turn us against him.

One thing is for sure though, Villa will be looking to strengthen our options at the of the pitch in the January window, so we can certainly expect more Morelos links as the New Year nears.
