Birkir Bjarnason has revealed he is keen to remain at the club despite missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

The Icelandic international says he was very disappointed at not being picked to start against Fulham in the playoff final but he is happy to stay at Villa Park. He was quoted by the Birmingham Mail as saying:

“I’m not happy at all, but it went as it went. I have two years left of my contract at Villa and am very happy there. I’m happy with the club.”

Our no.20 had to fight for his place in the side last season and was on the verge of leaving the club back in January

However, an influential second-half performance against Nottingham Forest back in January led to increased game time.

By the end of the campaign, the 30-year-old had made 29 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He did not though play much of a part during the playoffs, coming on as a substitute in both games against Middlesbrough, while he was an unused sub in the defeat at Wembley last weekend.
