Pierluigi Gollini will sign for Atalanta on a permanent basis, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Virgilio).

The 23-year-old has been on loan at the Serie A club since January 2017, and they do have a purchase option on the goalkeeper.

It seems that they have decided to trigger the clause to sign the player for €3.5million (£3m).

During his eighteen months at Atalanta, Gollini has only played 12 times but he is seen as a good understudy for number one choice Etrit Berisha.

The Italian was signed from Hellas Verona in 2016 by Roberto Di Matteo, but the manager’s sacking and the arrival of Sam Johnstone on loan from Manchester United at the beginning of 2017, led to his swift departure.

The Birmingham Mail reported only a few days ago that the stopper could be set to return to Villa Park following his lack of games at Atalanta, but that may no longer be the case.
