Back in the 2018 summer transfer window there was plenty of speculation linking Aston Villa with having a strong interest in Southampton Academy graduate Matt Targett.

These Villa Fans Remain Hopeful This Deal Gets Done Before Friday

It wasn’t the first time the highly rated 23-year-old left back had been linked with Villa, and he built further on his successful spell with Fulham previously by featuring more for Southampton in the 2018/19 campaign.

Admittedly, the more recent rumours of head coach Dean Smith potentially having an interest in him come from the Sun so huge pinch of salt needed when it comes to accuracy, but this is one of the more believable rumours doing the rounds for me.

They name £10million as the fee required to get the St Mary’s Stadium outfit to do a deal and they say he is our first choice target to add to the competition in defence.

Given the reaction to previous interest was positive, I imagine this will again go down well with most fans and they’ll be hoping this time around we can get the deal done.
