Villa are backing two leading charities in the fight against Leukaemia.

Villa’s community relations team and AVTV spent time with research expert Professor Charles Craddock and were shown around the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the QE. Professor Craddock is a medical director at Anthony Nolan Trust and also works closely with Cure Leukaemia.

As well as raising awareness, the club are also backing ‘Register and Run’ to increase willing donars to come forward, and to raise £25,000 to fund a nurse for one year.

At our final home game against Spurs fans can join the Anthony Nolan stem cell register by going to the Indoor Academy pre kick off and providing a small saliva sample. The charity uses these samples to match donors to patients in need of a stem cell transplant, and when a match is found they are asked to donate their stem cells in a process similar to giving blood.

The charity in particular are looking for men between the ages of 18-30 as apparently they make the best donars, but account for just 12% of the register as it stands.

Cure Leukaemia will also be in attendance and will be looking for fans to sign up for a fun run which will take place at Sutton Park on May 27. Fans can run, walk, or jog the course and all funds raised will go towards funding a research nurse to administer drugs to patients who have come to the end of readily available treatments on the NHS.

Application forms for the fun run are also available from www.cureleukaemia.co.uk or by phoning 0121 371 4367.
