It is up to us

The season is over. If at the start it had been suggested that only Manure and Chelski would lose less away games and that only four clubs overall would lose less games than us, we would have gladly excepted it.

Having Villa supporting local lads score the last two goals of the season was the icing on the cake. Both on and off the pitch the club has made enormous strides in the right direction. There have been may forums and discussions about everything that is going on at our club but maybe now is the time to put a plan into action of what WE can do.

First and foremost we have pride, hope and ambition back. I personally believe this means that every body who has the means and the flexibility to get to most (even if not all) games should be buying season tickets for themselves, family and friends.

Secondly we must ensure that merchandise sales go through the roof. It is vital that we prove that Nike have made a sound business investment and that they want to be associated with our club on a
long term basis. Thirdly, the Sheffield Utd game proved how good the matchday experience can be when fans in all stands give their vocal support and show their colours. Lets not have the ‘scarf’ experience as a one off. A campaign should now be started to encourage every supporter to come to VP with a flag, scarf, banner etc every game. It happens abroad and Celtic and Liverpool are examples of how effective it can be here.

This campaign should also include encouraging the Trinity and Witton Lane stands to actively improve the match day experience instead of doing their normal silent vigil. It makes a difference when VP is rocking so lets ensure that the Holte gets a supporting cast. I am sure their are other things that we can do as supporters (any ideas anyone??) but in simple terms filling Villa Park, making it the most intimidating arena for the opposition and making it the most attractive proposition for world class performers to want to come is the bare minimum.
