We are among three teams chasing Sunderland attacking midfielder George Honeyman, according to the Sun.

The tabloid’s reporter David Coverdale says that the club have been joined by Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday in pursuing a deal for the 23-year-old.

Honeyman came through the youth ranks at the Black Cats but after suffering relegation with his boyhood club to the third tier, he could be set for a move away from the Stadium of Light.

The midfielder has just one year remaining on his contract at Sunderland, but it is not yet known whether he will be offered a new deal.

The Wearsiders will not sanction any sales until the consortium led by Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald takes over the club from current owner Ellis Short.

The EFL will have to sanction the takeover before any transfers will go ahead. With Honeyman entering the last 12 months of his contract, many teams will be hoping to snap him up on the cheap.
