Stuart Taylor has told the official site he is ‘absolutely gutted’. Good grief, the operation was more extensive than I’d first thought.

The luckless former Arsenal keeper, who was highly rated by the Gunners goalkeeper coach Bob Wilson, picked up a knee injury that has since required knee surgery following the Monday night clash against Sheffield United.

Having only just been given the opportunity of a first team run following the injury to Thomas Sorensen Taylor said:

‘I’m absolutely gutted, there’s no other word for it. I can’t believe this has happened just as I was getting a run in the team. Thomas’ injury meant I was getting a chance to prove myself for the first time, but it was obviously not meant to be. It’s a real kick in the teeth.’

‘There’s nothing I can do about it though. I just have to focus on getting back to full fitness as quickly as possible, then I can push Thomas for the shirt again.’

  • Lady Luck is a cruel mistress! As a keeper you just wait and wait for an injury to the No.1 to get your chance, and then to pick up an injury yourslef… very harsh!

  • Yes, its a big blow for Stuart, and leaves Villa with a big problem to solve with all the games we have got coming up over the holiday period.

  • Let the Olejnik play, we have some tough games against top top premiership teams over Christmas. If he can handle them games and put in some solid performances we may just have a keeper for the future…anyone know how he plays for the reserves?

  • From what i’ve heard Olejnik is a quality keeper, the reserves to the prem however is a big jump. give him a chance though. i also read that o’neill is trying to get dispensation to sign a keeper immediatley. wonder who that could be?

  • You can imagine that Stuart is indeed ‘absolutely gutted’. Whether or not he would eventually become the Villa number one is open to debate, but he deserved this opportunity to stake a claim, and in my estimation wasn’t doing too badly. A blow to both ST, and to the club. No idea whose out there and available, so I’ll refrain from suggesting any stop-gap signing.

  • Feel sorry for him as he was having an influence int he side especially with that stonking dispaly on Monday. The guy is good but is so unfortunate his chance rarely appears.

  • Many moons ago our 1st Choice Keeper got Injured, we had a kid on the bench (Spink) so we put him on ten minutes into a game. He picked up a medal, played a blinder Olejnik may not get a European Champions Cup winners medal but that game would mean the world to him. Let the kid prove himself worthy before jumping over him.

  • I think Martin O’neill will sign a new keeper in January now. Might be the last we see of Taylor me thinks.

  • Hope you’re very wrong about Kiraly ‘Thegreatdando’.
Obviously we aren’t going to be spoilt for choice, but that name does worry me somewhat.
