The latest poll is asking for your man of the match vote.

I was going to add the ref Mike Riley but decided against it as most votes would have gone for his match winning performance for Liverpool.

At the moment Stuart Taylor, who having watched the replays made more great reflex saves than I realised and Craig Gardner who looks like he is going to develop into a blinding player, hopefully in midfield where he belongs!

So who was your man of the match and why?

  • I thaught 3 players really stood out. Young, Gardner and Taylor. Having now watched MOTD i think Taylor is the obvious choice. Who voted for Petrov

  • Exactly Godzilla, also we have come to expect more from Barry and Young is a winger not a “ace in the hole ” or whatever……

  • I’d have to vote for Stuart Taylor. Could hardly have entered the game in a great frame of mind what with the arrival of Scott Carson at the club, but he put all that aside, and turned in a very good performance. Flapped once or twice, but some of his reflex saves were top drawer. Didn’t let himself or the club down.

  • Barry for me. Even as MON’S favorite son Petrov must be getting close to being dropped (although he wasn’t all last season – so maybe not)

  • i tell you who wasnt man of the match, petrov, utter garbage yesterday and reo-cocopops wasnt far behind either. why did no one have the bottle to tackle gerrard? if cocopops is gonna improve its in games like that against class players like gerrard but he gave him way to much respect. we played badly and they pressured us into playing the long ball, as for the formation in the first half, playing young behind the strikers does not work at all because petrov is a lazy slag and wont go wide when you need him to. ***** poor.

  • Can anyone tell me when has Petrov ever had a good game in a villa shirt? Young and Barry were the only players that looked like they could make something happen, its just not good enough we are never going to beat any of the top 4 unless we sign some real quality.

  • whyvilla, his debut at upton park last season was something to behold, he ran the game and nearly scored a superb chipped goal. There, he has had ONE decent game, not great for over £8m. The guy is a total flop, keep wishing he would ram the words down our throats but he seems to get worse.

  • Craig Gardner as man of the match for me, Torres never got into the game, he was made to look very ordinary against Craig Gardner I cant rember how much Liverpool paid for him (cant be arsed to look) but Gardner never let him do anything constructive.

  • JF- Bang on; he played top class at Upton Park but you will recall we played 5 in midfield and more or less had a free role, usually in acres of space. I can’t ever see him fitting into a 4 3 3 formation that we have played most of this year since Young and Carew arrived. He’s just not competitive or quick enough for the Prem. I say sell him,

  • Taylor has to get MOTM for me, but Gardener was very good. Rightbacks are needed very quickly so he can get back into midfield. Petrov was absolutely s**t, can’t believe he left him on. I’ll give him 5 or 6 games and if he hasn’t produced, he must be dropped, he cost us heavily in midfield, and Stig, you saw why no-one has the bottle to tackle Gerrard, he is world class but he can get referees to work in his favour everytime. In fact the whole Liverpool team always cheat their way out of things, look at Carragher and Finnan, all they did was foul and fall over holding their legs and heads.

  • Definately a straight fight between Taylor and Gardner, everyone else was avergae or below. I’d give it to Gardner as I’m always reluctant to give MOTM to a keeper on the losing side.

  • see what real competition for places can do for you, hes gonna bench carnson with performances like that!
