Reports have emerged this week that serial gate failure Ross McCormack is set to join Usain Bolt at Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

The Daily Mail were one of a number of outlets to lean on the speculation as the week drew to a close and it wouldn’t, of course, be the Scotland international’s first experience of ‘Down Under’ following his spell with Melbourne City last season.

Having only found the net for us three times following his big-money move from Fulham, speculation has been high and ‘gate-gate’ was in many ways the final straw – even if fans are torn on whether McCormack or manager Steve Bruce should take the flack. He was a success in Australia though, finding the net 14 times in 17 league outings.

He clearly has no future with us and nobody seems to be interested in taking the 32-year-old on a permanent deal, so at least a loan serves some purpose for Financial Fair Play.

With the Mariners taking Bolt on trial this summer as he tries to achieve his aim of becoming a professional footballer, reactions from Villa fans to their interest in McCormack isn’t entirely surprising.

I think my personal favourite was the hurdles crack!
