Patrik Berger, as expected, will not be departing Villa Park on a loan deal this summer despite interest from Oldham Athletic.

The Czech midfielder, who surprised many Villa fans by returning from Stoke City with a number of inspirational performances signed a one year contract extension, and Martin O’Neill does not see any reason to let the player go out on loan again.

Oldham claimed last week that they had started discussions in brining the Czech International in on loan but had their offer rejected, something backed up by the Aston Villa boss on avfc.co.uk:

‘It’s the first I’ve heard about it. Patrik Berger has agreed a new one-year contract and I’m delighted about that.

‘There’s no chance of him being sent out on-loan – absolutely no chance of that.

‘He did enough over the last few months of the season to earn another deal and he’s very much in our plans for next season. I just don’t know where that story came from.’
