Villa Mugged By Liverpool At The Death – Match Stats

Having taken victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek and booked our place in the next round of this year’s EFL Cup, it was back to Premier League action today as Aston Villa welcomed Liverpool to Villa Park.

Head coach Dean Smith made the expected changes but unfortunately for us, Jack Grealish did miss out.

It proved to be an entertaining first half and although Liverpool dominated possession, we matched them and created chances of our own – seeing Trezeguet open the scoring 21 minutes in as VAR worked in our favour…and again as they had a perfectly good leveller ruled out.

Second half was pretty much the same in reality, but we held firm, we were gutsy and organised and plenty of players come out of that with credit. Liverpool did get the leveller though, and with five minutes of invented stoppage time they nicked the winner in hugely unfair circumstances.

We deserved at least a point from that.

Gutted.
