Villa Not For Sale

To loop this story back on itself, Chief Executive Paul Faulkner has dismissed the speculation from The Sun the other day about Randy Lerner looking to sell the club for around £200million.

Villa’s denial slowly filtered through from the press, first Pat Murphy I think, but we now have quotes.

‘I can categorically confirm Aston Villa Football Club has absolutely not been put up for sale and that Randy Lerner is not actively looking to sell the club.’

This of course hasn’t stopped the speculation as people are obviously reading into Faulkner’s comments based on things he didn’t in fact comment on.

I’m not quite sure how many different potential new owners we have been linked with over the past few years, certainly the more recent speculation has been twitter based and hasn’t really been picked up on by the mainstream – namely you’d presume as there’s been nothing in it and very little to actually base a story on, however speculative.

But the Mirror have twisted this story as it broke, into their own denial, but the suggestion that the story may have stemmed not from the fact Randy was actively looking to sell, but that he was more looking towards securing either a ground sponsorship deal, or as was talked about many years ago, individual commercial stand sponsorship in order to secure a further cash injection into the club and grow our turnover level further.

Whether this, or the former even, comes to pass remains to be seen but for those who have lost faith any ounce of speculation regardless of the source will continue to be leapt upon.
