One of these days Aston Villa might be linked with a player on their own, but as it stands it’s been reported that Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is now a target for both us and West Bromwich Albion.

It was being reported initially yesterday that West Brom had already been rebuffed by Newcastle as they made a move with a firm first offer, but even though the player handed in a transfer request over the summer as he wanted to move closer to his family home for personal reasons, Rafa Benitez wasn’t willing to let him go before a replacement had been secured.

With Newcastle again slow in the transfer market under Mike Ashley, if there’s any truth in the report from the Mirror, little is likely to happen until deadline day in my mind.

The 23-year-old is a former Arsenal academy graduate and he played twice for Arsene Wenger before heading to Newcastle in 2016 and he’s made over 50 appearances for them, mainly Championship based when they won promotion and Premier League last season – he has only played nine times this year though.
