Villa Pay The Price At The Death Against Arsenal – Match Stats

Following the disappointing draw that we took last Monday against West Ham United, where it really should’ve been a win, Aston Villa were given a lovely trip to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon to face Arsenal.

With our defensive strength, yet a lack of punch up front, Arsenal aren’t quite the side they used to be the last time we were in the top flight either, so this was set to be an interesting match and it was.

John McGinn gave us the lead 20 minutes in and we then saw Arsenal reduced to ten men for a second bookable offence by Ainsley Maitland-Niles. A 59th minute penalty for the hosts saw them draw level, but within 60 seconds, Wesley had us back in front.

Inside of the final ten minutes the game turned against us, and they hit back twice to ultimately take a 3-2 victory. Fans will naturally be disappointed, but we can consider the final score to be incredibly harsh given the overall balance of the game – especially as we had the greater chances on target – but we paid for sitting too far back at the death.
