Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan has been quoted as saying that links surrounding former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as our next manager are ‘huge’ in his mind, but it’s being claimed that the Belgian assistant coach remains undecided on his future.

Following the departure of Steve Bruce last week, Villa have been linked with names aplenty and with the Frenchman featuring over the summer it’s no surprise to see him return as a hot favourite now we actually have a spot to fill.

Short of Hogan’s words about the potential for working under both Henry and John Terry who continues to be linked as assistant manager mainly, there is nothing fresh in Sky Sports original report.

“They’re huge names in football but at the minute there’s no one there so the lads back home, we’ve just got to crack on until someone gets appointed, but to be linked with those sort of people, for me personally, is huge. To maybe have the chance to work with Thierry Henry, who is probably the greatest Premier League striker, and obviously JT played with us last year – probably the best Premier League defender. Nothing’s been appointed or confirmed yet but a club like Aston Villa, the size of it, these names are going to be linked to us.”

Such is life in the media these days with unsubstantiated claims from those who should actually know more than little ol me, Sky appear to backtrack on their earlier claims that pretty successful talks had been held with Henry last week by saying they now don’t believe the Belgium FA has even been contacted for permission to speak to him yet.

Look for tomorrow’s instalment where we have applied for permission, but they don’t know if it was granted!

A second piece from them – Click Here – states that they ‘understand’ Roberto Martinez is no longer in the running for the job and Henry was now unsure on whether he wants it himself.

Not bad for a man who had positive talks, but hasn’t yet been approached and looks set to take the Monaco job.
