I can’t figure out if Aston Villa have released Ulises de la Cruz or not?

Most reports over the last month have said he will be allowed to leave at the end of his contract – which runs out in July – but there has been no mention of the players status from Aston Villa.

De la Cruz had been looking for a move in the January transfer window in order to boost his chances of playing in the World cup for Ecuador but he needn’t have worried, he was selected and if his opening game performance against Poland is anything to go by, he had nothing to worry about. One of his long throw ins led to a goal and he went on one run that very nearly resulted in another!

The 32-year-old said: ‘I want to be at Aston Villa next season. I don’t see my future anywhere else. Why would I want to leave with such quality players as Milan Baros at the club?’

Good point if not for the fact we will sell Baros if a bid comes in!

DLC said of Ecuador, ‘Many people have said we can only play in the mountains, but we showed we can play anywhere. We are a strong team. We might not be Brazil, but we are a team that people will now be talking about and taking seriously.’
