I can’t figure out if Aston Villa have released Ulises de la Cruz or not?

Most reports over the last month have said he will be allowed to leave at the end of his contract – which runs out in July – but there has been no mention of the players status from Aston Villa.

De la Cruz had been looking for a move in the January transfer window in order to boost his chances of playing in the World cup for Ecuador but he needn’t have worried, he was selected and if his opening game performance against Poland is anything to go by, he had nothing to worry about. One of his long throw ins led to a goal and he went on one run that very nearly resulted in another!

The 32-year-old said: ‘I want to be at Aston Villa next season. I don’t see my future anywhere else. Why would I want to leave with such quality players as Milan Baros at the club?’

Good point if not for the fact we will sell Baros if a bid comes in!

DLC said of Ecuador, ‘Many people have said we can only play in the mountains, but we showed we can play anywhere. We are a strong team. We might not be Brazil, but we are a team that people will now be talking about and taking seriously.’

  • For me UDLC had a typical UDLC game against Poland; he looked very good going forward but was caught out several times in his defensive duties. Mind you, he also looked like he’d been working out at the gym. Does he normally wear a baggy shirt for the V

  • I must say, that fella down the right for Ecuador looked a bit useful, I wonder if he’s available (sic)? ;o)
Siver Fox, if you don’t like him defensivley, don’t play him as a defender, he came to Villa as a right winger and only became a defender d

  • good point votn . one thing i also noticed about him in his time at villa is that as the game progresses he becomes more influential down the right.personally i think he is a decent player.

  • We cant afford not to offer him a new contract. Once again we’ll be entering the campaign with a ridiculously small squad, we just cant afford to lose anyone, knowing that they would hardly likely be replaced. Ulises is not a defender, so lets keep him an

  • Poor as Right back but not bad cover right mid field. Not overly impressed with him at the weekend although he made some great runs.
