Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith met with the media to preview Friday’s upcoming derby clash against West Bromwich Albion.

Villa head to The Hawthorns on Friday night for our next Championship clash and with both sides a little bit loose in defence but in reasonable form at the other end of the pitch, the Nottingham Forest game might have been a one-off but this one might push it close.

On an injury front, Smith told the Official Site that it was basically the same group available to him as the squad that went into the Middlesbrough game – minus Henri Lansbury.

That does mean that Albert Adomah has already basically been ruled out, but Smith hopes he can come back into his thoughts for the Stoke City tie next weekend.

Birkir Bjarnason has also now returned to the training pitch to begin jogging a fortnight after he underwent groin surgery, so Smith’s options should increase slightly as we head towards the middle of the month and the timing might actually suit us given the festive fixture crush.
