A few days back Aston Villa’s transfer rumour mill suggested that we were keeping a close eye on highly rated Charlton Athletic youngster, Joe Aribo.
The suggestion was that we would have scouts in place to watch the 22-year-old attack minded midfielder at Wembley for Sunday afternoon’s League One Play-Off Final between Charlton and Sunderland.
Their Academy graduate has had a good season so far as they battled for promotion back to the Championship and he’s chipped in with ten goals and five assists ahead of the showpiece final.

With him being out of contract in a few weeks, Aston Villa were one of a number of clubs to be linked with an interest, and for me, he is the typical Dean Smith signing when it comes to developing potential further – but doing a decent job now.
Over the weekend the Sun refreshed the speculation and suggested that we were now in pole position for his capture.
With Charlton’s future unknown I doubt much is going on at the minute as he’ll be focusing on promotion before deciding his own future you’d have thought and having come through their Academy, he may want a Championship shot with them first.
If we do have a real interest, I’d expect some real details to come out after Monday when futures are known.
