David O’Leary wants the team to make one more surge in order to ensure their safety this season.

He says he is looking to end the week on a positive note after coming in for ‘a lot of criticism this week’. Adding ‘the only place to really answer that criticism is on the field. Hopefully we can start to do that tomorrow.’

Villa have just 34 points from 30 games, the lowest hall ever. So at least O’Leary has managed to break one record at Villa.

He added, to the official site: ‘We’ve got to battle, work hard and put our heads on the ball when long balls come into our box. Roy Aitken and myself can’t do that from the touchline. I’m looking for my senior players to lead by example this weekend. I said before the Portsmouth game that I wanted to win all the remaining home games. We got the perfect start and I want to win the next five. If we’d taken care of our home form, look where we’d be in the league. But we have a chance to improve on that record between now and the end of the season.’

Talk is cheap, they seem to be able to talk a great game, now lets see them play a great game. The three points are there to be taken tomorrow and with 37 points we should be all but safe. If we lose it could end up a very nervous end to the season, although the ineptitude of Blues and Portsmouth could just be our saving grace. (And the word inept came from my mate, a Blues fan, before any Blue nose starts having a go!).
