Following the incredibly quick signings of Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos, Aston Villa fans had a couple of days of downtime to wonder where signing number four would come from – but rather expectedly on Saturday, the club confirmed our fourth signing was actually on loan back up goalkeeper Robin Olsen.
Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of Robin Olsen for an undisclosed fee! ✅

The 32-year-old Swedish international spent the second half of the campaign on loan with us, playing only once in what many consider was the 2021/22 curtain closing car crash against Manchester City. Olsen didn’t really impress many – but in fairness – it’s a hell of a game to debut in, particularly given our late collapse and whilst he could’ve done better at moments during the game, he certainly can’t be blamed for all of the three we conceded.
He’s had a mixed time since moving to England on loan spells from parent club AS Roma, and we have paid an undisclosed fee for him, which I expect will be pretty nominal. 57 caps for his country implies he’s steadier than we’ve seen, so working with Neil Cutler and Emi Martinez should bring the best out of him as he provides (hopeful) reliable back up to our Argentine moving forward.
Some players just need to feel wanted to get the best from them, and head coach Steven Gerrard moved for him pretty quickly to begin with, so welcome Robin – show us what you’re really made of.
