Villa have snapped up Arsenal teenage sensation Samir Carruthers after the 16-year-old turned down a new contract at the Gunners and also rebuffed an approach from Fulham.

A report in the Birmingham Mail quotes Villa Academy director Bryan Jones who admits Villa have been granted permission to talk to the highly rated youngster and have agreed a contract ‘in principle’. The player can sign for Villa on July 1. That is a date I’ve got my hopes focussed on for other signings as well as it is a time that contracts run out but also seems to be a good cut off for players under contract to move. I am not sure fully of the details but it appears to be something to do with the player bonuses etc?

Bryan Jones is sure that the facilities at Bodymoor are what swayed the player after Arsenal allowed the player to visit other clubs.

‘I think what swung it for us was two things. Firstly, the facilities which are a great pulling factor these days. And the family are also aware that young players are given a chance by Martin if they are good enough.’

From what I can gather having read a few articles online, he is a defensive midfielder.
