Villa Star Highlights A West Brom Mistake From Tuesday That He Believes Backfired On Them

|

Having finally got himself up and running at Aston Villa in the second half of the 2018/19 Championship campaign, goalkeeper Jed Steer has made the No 1 spot his own and despite a hiccup or two in Tuesday evening’s second leg Play-Off Semi-Final against West Bromwich Albion, he saw his stock rise higher with his performance in the penalty shoot out.

Reflecting on the game as we look towards Wembley for a second successive year, Steer was quoted by the Mirror as saying that the lively welcome the West Brom fans gave our team bus actually backfired against them as it simply fueled our motivation to get the right end result.

Having saved their opening two penalties on the evening, the 26-year-old explained.

“We had the heartbreak of last year so we want to make sure we go one step better this time. We got a bit of a welcoming party. That just spurred us on even more. We saw how much they wanted it but we wanted it more, so that was quite good to see. We knew it was going to be that sort of atmosphere. It was a great occasion and one that we came out of on the right side.”

Given the derby nature of the tie it was always going to be spicy and fiery and it didn’t really disappoint, but ultimately all that matters is we booked our place in the Wembley Final and now we look to go one better (and perform far better) against Derby County than we managed against Fulham last year.
