In quotes taken by the club’s official website, Glenn Whelan has discussed the headache that Dean Smith is currently having at the Villans.
The Villa have been excellent in recent weeks and look well set to get into the top six come the end of the campaign.
A play-off challenge looks on the way, then, and it seems as though several of our players are coming good at the right time.
Glenn Whelan has been one of them, too, but with the midfield options we have got he knows that his spot is far from guaranteed in the first team.
Quoted by the official Villa site, he said:
“It’s big competition.
“As well as myself, there’s the likes of John, Jack, Conor, Mile, Henri and Birkir. That’s really healthy competition where we are playing for places.
“We’re all trying to stay in to get the right results for the team. We know if we don’t perform to those top levels, there’s incredible talent on the bench who’ll be ready to come in. That keeps everyone on their toes and it’s a headache I’m sure the manager thrives on.”
Certainly, it is a problem for Dean Smith at the moment and one he will continue to need to solve in the coming weeks as things stand.
It remains to be seen who is going to stay at the club in the summer, too, with this issue in mind.
