Kevin Phillips is looking to the new season to kick-start his Villa career after suffering ‘the worst season’ he has ever had during his first term at Villa Park.

Phillips, who bagged 5 goals in 22 games, had a season blighted by injuries.

He told the official site that the season was ‘very disappointing’ for everyone involved adding ‘the momentum wasn’t there. We were inconsistent all too often. When we did get a good result, we didn’t back it up with another one and you can’t afford not to do that in the Premiership.’

Adding ‘On a personal side, it was the worst season I’ve ever had. I had my fair share of injuries and I don’t think the two months I had out with my ankle injury helped, because I felt before that I was just starting to get a bit of fitness and a run of form. I can understand how frustrated the supporters must have been, but I’m determined to look after myself in the summer, come back for pre-season training and give it another good shot.’

And the highlight for the former Sunderland and Southampton striker? ‘I’ll never forget scoring the derby goal when we won away at Birmingham City.’

Good man!
