Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor’s goalscoring heroics in the derby win over Birmingham City lifted him into the top 10 of the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

The Birmingham-born 21-year-old produced a vital goalline clearance at St Andrews to deny former Villa defender Liam Ridgewell before popping up at the other end to head home the decider with three minutes left.

Agbonlahor’s display earned him 30 points – his best away score of the season – and moved him up four places to 10th in the Index with 204 points. He was also named in the Actim team of the week.

He is level on points with team-mate Martin Laursen, the Denmark defender staying in ninth place. Ashley Young (18th), Zat Knight (33rd) and Gareth Barry (37th) are also in the top 50.

Analysis of all Premiership games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

Jose Reina, Liverpool
Glen Johnson, Portsmouth
Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United
Danny Higginbotham, Sunderland
Fabio Aurelio, Liverpool
Jermaine Jenas, Tottenham Hotspur
Lee Bowyer, West Ham
Aaron Lennon, Spurs
Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal
Carlton Cole, West Ham
Gabriel Agbonlahor, Aston Villa

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
