This is the sort of talk we are seeing more and more since the doom lifted from over Villa Park with the departure of the previous manager, what was his name again and the imminent departure of, no the former chairman’s name escapes me as well. Milan Baros says he is back and ready to fight for his place at Villa. The Czech internationl scored a brace for the reserves against Portsmouth last night and is now looking to re-gain his starting place following his recovery from an ankle injury picked up at the World Cup in the summer. He told the official site: ‘I’m ready to fight for my place. The strikers have done well do far this season. Juan, Luke and Gabby have all impressed and competition for places is always good. Now I’m ready to sight for my place. There’s a great atmosphere at Villa at the moment and I want to be part of the team. It was good to come off the bench at West Ham, but I want more than that.’

‘It was nice to get on the scoresheet last night and it’s always nice to get goals at any level. But really for me it was all about working on my match fitness and getting through 90 minutes.’

Berger also made a return and completed 90 minutes. Baros says Patrik is ‘a quality player who adds something to the squad.’

Rumours are also suggesting the fight for striker places might soon be increased with some patchy reports suggesting Martin O’Neill is considering a move for former Blackburn and Celtic striker Chris Sutton who is a free agent.

VILLA: Taylor, Gardner, Bridges, Djemba-Djemba, O’Halloran (booked 69), Bouma, Agathe, Osbourne, Whittingham, Baros, Berger. Subs: Green, Olejnik, Kabeya, MacDonald

  • yes things certainly are brighter now, what a change? I was actually very dissapointed with only a point from the hammers on Sunday. Not too sure about Sutton but obviously the great man thinks Chris could do a job for us.

  • Sutton could be a useful addition to the squad, I dont see the harm in offering him a short term deal and then seeing what contribution he makes.

  • I know injuries can change things and I don’t want to tempt fate, but we seem to have pretty decent cover for most positions. Not sure we are quite the small squad of honest lads we were almost led to believe!

  • I still believe that Milan can be Villa’s no. 1 striker this season. All he needs is a regular place in the team.

  • i don’t really care if he’s played for blues I must admit, he would no doubt be short term but is very experienced and could give a few prem defences something to think about still.

  • i think its a very sensible thing to do, MON didnt have the chance to properly bolster the squad and free agents can be got when the window is closed, he’s just trying to get some cover in. Sutton can also share his wealth of experience to our very young

  • We need two strikers to be up in the 15-20 goal per season range if we’re going to be successful this campaign, and personally I feel that in Milan Baros and Juan Pablo we have potentially two of the very best. Chris Sutton would be a useful acquisition.

  • that wasn’t me ! i popped the ‘amenities’, left my PC unlocked and my ‘comical’ bluenose workmate made me pay the price !
Usefully though, he doesn’t even consider Sutton to be a blue because he didnt really do it for them, he does acknowledge though tha

  • Baros can certainly play a major role this season, especially under the guidance of such a great manager. I agree that Baros and JPA can potentially be one of the best strike partnerships around.

  • Can someone tell me how the share sales are doing. Is he anywhere near the 90% yet? Only 5 days to go. Come on JP keep us informed.

  • I have to say that GEORDIEBOY is the most one eyed, ignoramus and idiotic contributor to any forum that has ever been hosted concerning football anywhere on this planet. Whatever, the comments that this so called Toon fan makes are very uneducated and in

  • just ignore the antagonisers – they are looking for a response just like the one above. I dont want to see chris sutton anywhere near villa park. He’s small heath and he smells. He is too old and we must surely have enough cover to last untill january. If
