Villa Take A Point, But It’s Arguable Whether The Rot Has Been Stopped – Match Stats
As Aston Villa made the short trip to Leicester City and The King Power Stadium this afternoon, the only question the lips of fans was – could head coach Steven Gerrard lead the side back to winning ways after four poor straight defeats.
Given relative confidence in the camp and the form of some individuals in the side, it was quite a bright and lively start from us. Gerrard seemed happy to concede possession to his former manager Brendan Rodgers, but we were compact at the back and as we roughly hit the hour mark in the game, we had still only limited them to one effort at Emi Martinez and two shots overall.
We had our efforts in the opening 45 minutes though, testing Kasper Schmeichel on a couple of occasions but having gone in level at the break, the game didn’t really change at half time, and again, around an hour in we had two efforts on target, but seven chances overall.
It was hardly exciting or end to end and with the performance we were putting in, you could easily argue we looked decent on paper simply because Leicester were woeful.
A semi decent point in the end, a much needed clean sheet and we avoid five defeats on the spin but you’d be hard pushed to call it an improvement.
