Looks like Villa might be about to make another signing! Reading’s Nicky Shorey has been linked several times and the Royals boss Steve Coppell has admitted he expects the player to be off before the weekends fixtures kick off.

The England international has been linked to Sunderland, Portsmouth and Villa with fresh reports claiming both Sunderland and Villa have had £4.5million bids accepted.

Coppell told their official site: ‘Without being specific about any destination, I expect Nicky to be gone by the time we kick off this weekend. There has been interest, and I expect him to be plying his trade with someone else by the time we get to Nottingham. He’s been consistent right from this time last year. He’s said he wanted to go, try a fresh challenge. We’ll see what happens but I imagine he’ll be gone.’

The 27-year-old left-back now needs to decide where his destination will be and I’m sure that he’ll come to the right decision and join up with his former team mate Steve Sidwell! ;o)

Shorey started off at Leyton Orient before moving to Reading in 2001.

So what do you reckon, would he be a good signing for Villa?
