The club have once again been linked with Hull City striker Abel Hernandez. The Mirror (via the Hull Daily Mail) are reporting we could swoop in with his contract expiring in the summer.
However, such a move would fly in the face of Tony Xia’s own comments on going back in for the Uruguayan.
The forward and his agent presented what were described as “excessive demands” when negotiating personal terms in 2016, and the owner vowed to never negotiate with them again when the rumour cropped up last summer:
“Never will happen after last summer. Good for us.”
Since returning from a serious Achilles tendon injury in March, the 27-year-old has scored five goals in seven games. He worked under Steve Bruce at the Tigers as well, which would suggest the manager could be interested in re-signing him.
Especially as he is available on a free, a move for the forward may seem tempting, but Xia’s refusal to deal with the player last summer means this transfer is unlikely to go ahead.
